HUSSEIN Kermali returned an impressive score of three-under par 69 nett to clinch Kilimanjaro Spur May Monthly Mug in 18-hole golf tournament held over the weekend at the Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC).
Paying off handicap-12, Kermali beat his closest challenger Simon Travers (handicap-5) by two shots in a tough competition to win the Division A title. Travers, one of the club’s top player, carded 71 nett to finish the Division A’s runner up. But, the player also led the rest in posting the lowest gross score of 76 strokes.
Following his impressive score, Kermali’s handicap was chopped once from 12 to 11. Division B trophy went to Riyaz Somji who carded 69 nett, playing off 18 handicap. His handicap was also improved to 17 for his impressive score.
19 handicapper Aliraza Kermali beat two other players on countback to finish runners up with 72 nett. Those beaten by Kermalli on countback were 16 handicapper Pumulo Sooli and Aayush Nathwani who netted 72 strokes.
Shiva Paudel carded 74 nett to win Division C trophy as Kassim Somji (handicap-22) finished a runner-up after netting 76 strokes. The tournament also saw only two players manage two club score.
They include the Division A winner Kermali and the Division B winner Riyaz, both did it on hole number 2. This is fifth monthly mug event to be sponsored by Kilimanjaro Spur since they started backing golf events last year.
About 40 players turned for a flag off on Saturday and their presence helped to brighten the 18-hole golf event.
